SORTING SYSTEM AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting system which is inexpensive, compact as a whole, of a simple structure, and easy to handle and a sorting method. SOLUTION: This sorting system is provided with a transfer device 12 loaded with a large number of containers 11 housing objects such as specimens and to which object information and destination information on the objects are added to transfer them, container information detecting devices 17, 18, and 19 to detect the destination information and location of placement of each container, one or two sorting stages 13 or more to receive the transfer of the containers 11 from the transfer device 12 on the basis of the detection results, to fill a primary container with added discrimination information with a predetermined pieces of the containers 11, or to house a predetermined number of the primary container in every secondary container with added discrimination information, and to transfer the primary container or secondary container to any of a plurality of sorting locations, a location information detecting device to detect location information which indicates the discrimination information, location, and destination location of the primary container or secondary container, a location information adding device to add location information to each container, and a control device 21 to perform control over the sorting of each container on the basis of at least the results of detection and instructions of the container information detecting device.
