PURPOSE: An apparatus and method is provided to obtain pictures with appropriate exposure by automatically determining whether the current photographing condition is for forward light or back light. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a first photo-metering unit(10) for measuring luminance level of the view angle and outputting a first luminance signal; a second photo-metering unit(20) for measuring luminance level of the environment of the view angle and outputting a second luminance signal; an exposure operation unit(40) for controlling operation of the shutter so as to perform a photographing operation; and an operation control unit(30) for comparing the first luminance signal and the second luminance signal, determining as a back light photographing condition if the difference between the first luminance signal and the second luminance signal is lower than a predetermined level, calculating exposure volume based on the back light correction value set in accordance with the difference, and controlling the exposure operation unit in accordance with the calculated exposure volume. |
