A failure diagnosing method having the steps of collecting data on failures of a machine by a computer system, organizing database, which includes the causal relations of the failures, on the basis of the failure data, determining the causes of the failures on the basis of the database by entering the phenomena of the failures of the machine which have occurred on the market, and displaying treatment information for repairing the machine. The items to be ascertained until the causes of the failure registered on the database are found, are classified in the order of probability of occurrence and shown to the user. Hence the number of the items to be selected to diagnose the causes of the failures is reduced. Unified management of failure data used to update the database sequentially on the basis of the diagnosis results is carried out, and failure diagnosis is carried out on the actual spot by a hand-held computer which the serviceman has at hand. |
