PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium being little affected by thermal disturbance and capable of exceeding the recording density of the conventional magnetic recording material. SOLUTION: This perpendicular magnetic recording medium comprises a substrate 1 and such a laminated film 2 provided on the substrate 1 as is obtained by laminating plural times a first magnetic layer 4 consisting of a rare earth metal/transition metal amorphous film containing at least one element of the rare earth elements of Nd, Pr, Ce and Sm and containing at least one of the transition elements of Co and Fe and an intermediate film 5 containing at least one element of Pt and Pd.
