POLYHALOGENATED MONOTERPENE AND PRODUCTION OF HALOMON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject simple and highly selective compound enabling the total synthesis of halomon by reacting a specific monoterpene compound with a tetraalkylammonium dichlorobromate to bromochlorinate the monoterpene compound. SOLUTION: (A) A monoterpene compound containing at least two olefinic double bonds in the molecule is reacted with (B) a tetraalkylammonium dichlorobromate to form addition bond of Br and Cl on the two or more olefinic double bond parts in the molecule and bromochlorinated to give the objective compound. For example, myrcene of formula I is bromochlorinated by the method to give a compound of formula II. The compound of formula II is debrominated to give a compound of formula III. Then the compound of formula III is bromochlorinated to give a halomon of formula IV. Consequently, the halomon having prominent tumor selectivity can be practically and wholly synthesized.
