The production of 1,3-diketones by thermal rearrangement of enol-esters at 350-700 deg C in a tubular reactor (1), followed by cooling and work-up by distillation, in which the reactor is only heated over the first 1/4-3/4 (1a) of its total length, while the remaining unheated section (1b) is thermally insulated. An Independent claim is also included for a system for this process, comprising a tubular reactor (1) with a front, uninsulated section (1a) making up 1/4-3/4 of the total length and provided with heating element(s) (6) and a back section (1b) provided with cooling or insulation (2), connected via a delivery tube (3) to a column (4) and provided with a feed line (5) for coolant fluid.
