PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound comprising a polyhalogenomethylsulfonyl compound and useful as a component of a heat-developing image recording material having a high sensitivity and extremely small fogging and excellent in stability at the time of raw preservation and image stability after development. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula [Z1 and Z2 are each a halogen; A is H or a halogen; R1 is a (substituted) 2-12C alkyl or the like], e.g. a compound represented by formula II. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by dropping a reactional solution prepared by dissolving sulfinobenzoic acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium chloroacetate and sodium bromide in water into an aqueous solution of NaOBr, providing 3- tribromomethanesufonylbenzoic acid then adding dimethylformamide and thionyl chloride to the resultant compound, refluxing the prepared mixture under heating, affording 3-tribromomethanesulfonylbenzoyl chloride and subsequently reacting the obtained compound with an amine compound represented by the formula NH2R1.
