A transdermal therapy system (TTS) for delivering active ingredient through the skin to a human or an animal body, comprising a matrix which contains the active ingredient, and which has a self-adhesive active layer which faces towards the skin and which can be covered with a detachable protective layer before application, and a cover layer. The cover layer is impenetrable to the active agent and forms a barrier between the matrix and the outside. The system is characterised in that at the time of application, a part-section of the surface of the active layer of the matrix which releases the active agent and faces towards the skin is covered by a barrier layer (3), this barrier layer being impenetrable to the active agent.
