Parallel processing apparatus using a SIMD array

A method of processing data items using a SIMD (single instruction multiple data) array of processing elements comprises supplying a common instruction to all of the processing elements in the array, and supplying respective data items to the processing elements such that each processing element processes a different data item in accordance with the common instruction. The instruction is supplied to the processing elements separately from the data items, and wherein the data items are supplied by at least one of the processing elements in the array. The processing elements may be divided into processing blocks. A mathematical expression evaluator may be included.
