CODE LENGTH DETECTOR AND VARIABLE LENGTH ENCODING/ DECODING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code length detector capable of detecting an objective code at high speed. SOLUTION: This code length detector is provide with a code length detecting part 110 for detecting a total code length of plural variable length codes in a variable length code bit stream at once and a start bit designating/code connecting part 103 for detecting plural variable length codes to next detect the total code length out of the variable length code bit stream and designating them to the code length detecting part 110 based on the total code length of the plural variable length codes detected by the part 110. Since the code length detecting part 110 detects the total code length of plural variable length codes in the variable length code bit stream at once, the objective code can be detected at high speed.
