The cooker has cooking zones that emit heat when switched on, a residual heat warning device (2) that advises of hot cooking zones when the cooker is connected to the mains. A counter (3) switches off the residual heat warning device after switching off the cooker connected to mains voltage after a time delay. The cooker has a mains voltage detector (4) that detects the application of the mains voltage to the cooker. Following a mains voltage interruption the residual heat warning device outputs a current failure warning signal. An Independent claim is also included for a method of operating a residual heat warning device for a cooking arrangement.
