Emission control system for internal combustion engine

An emission control system is disclosed having an emission regulating system which includes an exhaust gas sensor (18) positioned between a light-off catalyst (24) and conditioning catalyst (16) to provide more robust emissions. The invention further teaches an apparatus having two exhaust gas oxygen sensors and a conditioning catalyst to provide better air/fuel control and emissions control over the broadest possible range of engine operating conditions.
