PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and device capable of accurately and speedily measuring the size of each part of a can necessary for the control and evaluation of the winding and tightening state of the can. SOLUTION: A pair of displacement sensors 10 and 10 are arranged so as to detect the displacements of a predetermined location in the circumference of a wound and tightened part 1a from the sides of the outer circumference and inner circumference of the wound and tightened part 1a. A can 1 and the pair of displacement sensors 10 and 10 are relatively rotated along the circumference of the can 1, and the thickness of the wound and tightened part 1a is obtained on the bases of the displacements detected by each of the displacement sensors 10 and 10 during the rotation.
