PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor using a component originated from a natural material having a high safety and also having an excellent xthantine oxidase inhibitory activity by containing a component extracted from a plant belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia. SOLUTION: This xanthine oxidase inhibitor contains a component extracted from a plant belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia as an active ingredient. As the extracted component of the above plant, especially Lagerstroemia speciosa belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia of Lythraceae is suitably used. The extract of the above plant is obtained by extracting a material obtained by drying and crushing the leaves, stems, flowers, wood part, bark part, root part, etc., of the above plant with water, a hot water, an organic solvent (preferably a water soluble organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol and acetone) or a mixed solvent consisting of at least 2 kinds of them at 40-100 deg.C, especially 95-100 deg.C. |
