PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool auxiliary combustion chamber for suppressing thermal deforma tion by locating the auxiliary combustion chamber provided on a cylinder head, which is allowed to communicate with a main combustion chamber through a communication port, closer to the scavenging port side from a first plane passing the center of an exhaust port and the central axis of a cylinder. SOLUTION: A retention hole is formed in a cylinder head 5a arranged on the upper end of a cylinder block 4, and a vertically halved hot plug 5b is fitted thereto. An auxiliary combustion chamber 30 is formed between the upper and lower plug 5b1 and 5b2, and the auxiliary combustion chamber 30 is allowed to communicate with a main combustion chamber 27 within the cylinder block 4 via a pair of communicating ports formed in symmetric positions. A fuel injection nozzle 16 is arranged opposite to the auxiliary combustion chamber 30, and a fuel can be injected toward a new air flow 50 from the communicating port 40. The auxiliary combustion chamber 30 is provided closer to a main scavenging port 24 with the plane passing the exhaust port center and the cylinder central axis as the boundary so as to cool the hot plug 5b by the scavenging flow.
