<p>A beverage container (10, 110) has a straw-dispensing mechanism (24, 124) that is disposed within the container to bring the straw (40, 140) into alignment with the orifice (20, 120) in the top of the container. When the orifice (20, 120) is opened, the straw (40, 140) elevates through the orifice to become accessible to the user. In one embodiment, the straw (40) is attached to a buoyant member (50) which urges the straw into contact with a contoured surface (26) on the can lid. In another embodiment, the straw (140) engages a floating member (126) which is urged against the lid of the container. The floating member (126) includes a contoured or cam surface (134) which is engaged by the opening tab (122) of the container to rotate the floating member (126) until the straw (140) aligns with the opening (120). Various design configurations for the floating member (134) are disclosed.</p> |
