PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the instrument and method for expansion ratio measurement of a foamed sheet which easily measure the expansion ratio of the foamed sheet with high precision and find the accurate expansion ratio in spite of variation in the thickness of the foamed sheet and eccentricity, bending, etc., of a roll. SOLUTION: The expansion ratio measuring instrument, which measures the expansion ratio of the foamed sheet conveyed by the metal roll 2, is equipped with an electrostatic capacity type weigher 3 which is provided opposite the metal roll 2 and measures tentative weight of the conveyed foamed sheet 1 without contacting, laser sensors 40 and 41 which measure the intervals between the conveyed formed sheet 1 and the sensor of the electrostatic capacity type weigher 3 at the position of the weigher 3, an eddy current type measurer 5 which measures the interval between the metal roll 2 and the sensor of the weigher 3 at the position of the weigher 3, and an expansion ratio arithmetic means which calculates the expansion ratio of the foamed sheet 1 from the interval between the foamed sheet 1 and the sensor of the electrostatic capacity type weigher 3 and the interval between the metal roll 2 and the sensor of the electrostatic capacity type weigher 3.
