<p>A novel side seal assembly for a slide gate (48) is provided that essentially comprises a seal member (70) having first (74), second (76) and third (78) mutually spaced sections formed integral with a base section (72), the first (74) and second (76) sections defining a slide-receiving channel (80), said second and third sections defining a tapered wedge-receiving channel (82), said second (76) section being capable of flexing away from said first (74) section toward said third (78) section under a flexing force applied thereto; a tapered wedge member (96) for disposition in said wedge-receiving channel (82); and attachment means (110) for attaching said seal member (70) and said wedge member (96) to a gate slide guide (16), said attachment means including fastener means (114) for retaining said wedge member (96) at a selected depth in said wedge-receiving channel (82), said wedge member (96) acting on said second (76) and third (78) sections to produce a flexing force that causes said second (76) section to flex toward said first (74) section whereby to cause said first (74) and second (76) sections to engage and form a watertight sliding seal with opposite surfaces of a slide gate disposed in said slide-receiving channel.</p> |
