PURPOSE: A method for operating a mini player to play and record a signal, is provided to play/record sound signals busing a recorder inserted into a cassette inserter, by enabling to play and record sound signals via a self drive. CONSTITUTION: A method for operating a mini player play and record a signal, comprises the steps of: if power is applied to a controller, setting as a portable mode and a stopped status; deciding whether a control button is operated(S2); if operated, resetting the portable mode; playing and recording signal data in a memory according to the operated button and returning to the S2; if not operated, deciding whether a recorder driving axis is rotated; if not rotated, returning to the S2; if rotated, resetting as a tape mode; and playing and recording the signal data according to a rotation speed of the driving axis and a rotation direction and returning to the S2.
