摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a preform for a low-cost metal matrix composite material high in the mechanical strength of the preform itself, small in resistance in the case molten metal is flowed in and moreover low in baking temp., and to provide a method for producing it. SOLUTION: By a method in which slurry contg. 1 to 100 pts.wt. ceramic fibers or ceramic particles and 5 to 100 pts.wt. glass binder to 100 pts.wt. glass fibers is subjected to dehydration forming, is dried and is next baked at a temp. between the softening point of the glass fibers and the softening point of the glass material, a preform for a metal matrix composite material having a three-dimentional skeletal structure composed of the glass fibers and ceramic fibers or ceramic particles, in which at least a part or all of the confounding points of each glass fiber is bonded with the glass binder can be obtd.
