PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide emission of high luminance and high efficiency according to a host material without causing flocculation by hydrogen bond by including pyrroloanseron compound in an organic layer laminated between a pair of electrodes, at least one of them being transparent. SOLUTION: This organic EL element has a compound expressed by formula I contained in its organic layer. In formula I, R1-R13 are each H, halogen atom, hydroxyl group, mercapto group, cyano group, amino group, nitro group, alkyl group, alkoxy group, alkylthio group, N-monoalkylamino group, N,N- dialkylamino group, aryl group, aryloxy group, arylthio group, or heterocyclic group whose adjoining groups may form a ring. A compound of formula II is used. The compound in formula II is prepared by dissolving 1- aminoanthraquinone into DMSO, adding KOH thereto, stirring it for 30 minutes in a room temperature, and purifying the product extracted from the solution by toluene. The peak of the photoluminescence in ethanol is 496 nm and the quantum yield Qf is 0.51.
