METHOD FOR REMOVING ODOR FROM BLAST FURNACE SLAG DRY PIT USING SODIUM HYDROXIDE

PURPOSE: A removal method is provided to remove odor by cooling slag and employing chemical reaction by spraying cooling water containing an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to molten slag. CONSTITUTION: Basic reaction of removing H2S which is a main element of odor is performed by two steps such as H2S+2NaOH becomes Na2S+2H2O(equation 2) and Na2S+H2S becomes 2NaHS(equation 3). When sodium hydroxide exists and pH is high, the equation 2 is remarkable and all sodium hydroxide is consumed. If pH is reduced, the equation 3 is remarkable. A chemical storage tank and a metering pump are installed to inject an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to the cooling water. After slag filling to a dry pit is completed, a certain amount of the aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is injected and sprayed to the cooling water by using the metering pump.
