PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time for an examination and to reduce a burden on a patient by catching infrared rays radiated from periodontal tissues to be examined with an infrared camera to make a thermal image or digital information for recording and reproducing. SOLUTION: Infrared rays radiated from the periodontal tissues to be examined 2 is detected by the infrared camera 1 through a cable. its electric signal is picture-analyzed by a picture processor 3 and its result is projected on a TV monitor 5 temperature distribution. This processor 3 is driven by a computer 4 and is provided with a recording and reproducing device 6. At the time of this measurement, unnecessary water such as saliva on the surface of periodontal tissues at a measuring site is sufficiently removed to correctly measure only water inside of the periodontal pocket. In addition, dirt is sufficiently removed to remove interference between light and foreign matters on the surface of the periodontal tissues. However, excessive drying should be avoided. Thus, the periodontal pocket at a part difficult to observe is also observed easily.
