The Specification refers to azoxy-azo and azoxy-stilbene dyes of the following formulae <FORM:0923265/IV(a)/1> These may be prepared by known methods such as the reduction of nitro compounds, e.g. with arsenious acid or alkaline glucose, or by condensing nitro compounds with amines. Dyestuffs 2, 3 and 5 may be in the form of their heavy metal complexes such as copper. The primary amino groups of dyestuff 3 may be replaced by groups of the formula -NR4R5, where R4 is hydrogen or an alkyl group and R5 is benzyl, dichlorobenzyl, benzoyl, dichlorobenzoyl, p-toluenesulphonyl, amyl, octadecyl, octadecenyl, dodecyloxypropyl or stearoyl. |
