The invention relates to monitoring the status of an optical transmission connection. A group of signals of different wavelengths is transmitted along an optical fiber (OF), and a sample of the signal traveling along the fiber is diverted to a special monitoring branch to verify the acceptability of the signals. To ensure that the monitoring system can be cost-effectively integrated even into an extensive optical network, the signal wavelengths are converted, in the monitoring branch, into a wavelength range visible to the human eye and, following the conversion, the signals are used to create an image for visual monitoring of the signals. |
