PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low toxic detergent excellent in degreasing ability of oils and fats such as machine oils, greases, waxes and the like and fluxes by employing, as an effective ingredient, a solvent composition comprising a cyclopentanone-based compound and 1,1,2,2,3,3,4-heptafluorocyclopentane. SOLUTION: The mixing ratio in a solvent composition is preferably such that a cyclopentanone-based compound constitutes 1-50 wt.% and 1,1,2,2,3,3,4- heptafluorocyclopentane constitutes 99-50 wt.%. This detergent can be used, if required, as a mixture with another solvent in addition to these two ingredients. Matters to be cleaned are contacted with the detergent and subsequently subjected to rinsing cleaning with a rinsing detergent and/or steam cleaning with a steam detergent to get substantially free of a residual detergent on the surface of the matter after cleaning. As the rinsing- and steam-detergent can be used, for example, the solvent composition or a mixture thereof with another organic solvent.
