PURPOSE: A device and method are provided to support a heat plate in the heating part of a double backer and to keep the heating face of the heat plate to the same flat by countering heat distorting force on operating the heating face. CONSTITUTION: A double backer contains a heat plate(11). An upper web hold-down device(14) regularly dries the web and rapidly hardens an adhesive by providing regular holding force on the upper face of the web moving over the heat plate. A heating face(12) is in a rectangle, relatively short in a length direction and long in a width direction. The heat plate is supported by the arrangement of a supporting assembly(17) extended between a lower face of the heat plate and a supporting beam(20) extended vertically. The supporting beam is over the electric device of a double backer heating unit and is supported by a crossing member(21) extended in a side direction and separating vertically, extended between both side frame members. Herein, the supporting assembly prevents the heat plate from distorting vertically but allows heat expansion in a side and vertical direction.
