PURPOSE: A device is provided to inform a user of the amount of the rest ink through an indication device unit by comparing with a test value after measuring the movement distance of a carriage by reading the value of an encoder strip bar through an encoder-reader after feeding a regular current to a DC-motor through a carriage driving unit. CONSTITUTION: A device comprises a central controller unit(100) for controlling the system of an ink jet printer, a memory unit(110) stored with a program and an example table for driving the system, a printer unit(120) for performing print based on a print order, a reading device unit(150) for measuring a movement distance when the printer unit drives, a comparator unit(160) for detecting the amount of ink stored in an ink cartridge by comparing with the read value through the example table and an indication device unit(130) for indicating the amount of the ink of the ink cartridge and designating to drive the system.
