In a press for moulding chipboard in which a stream 3 of chips is intermittently carried upon a band 4 between a fixed lower press plate 1 and a movable upper plate 2, the upwardly flared mouth region 5 of the upper plate is stepped at 7a-7f. Each step comprises a surface 7<SP>1</SP> parallel to the stream of chips and a surface 7<SP>11</SP> at an angle (e.g. 45 degrees) to said stream. It is stated that, in this way, dislocation of the material in a horizontal direction opposite the direction of feed, which dislocation leads to imperfections in the pressed board, is obviated due to the compressive action of each of surfaces 7<SP>1</SP>.</p> |
