PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orientation detector producing an accurate orientation detection signal even if a mobile does not turn along east, west south and north by correcting a coordinate data dependent on the X, Y component signals of an orientation sensor correctly. SOLUTION: An orientation sensor 1 has detection coils 4, 5 connected with an operating circuit 6 comprising a microcomputer or a dedicated hard lock circuit. The operating circuit 6 takes in X, Y component signals delivered from the detection coils 4, 5 of the orientation sensor 1 during travel and calculates the coordinates at the center of an orientation circle on which four points based on the X, Y component signals exist when the coils turn by about 90 deg. in the same direction. Subsequently, the operating circuit 6 corrects the magnetization of the X, Y component signals detected by the orientation sensor 1 based on the coordinates at the center of the orientation circle and calculates the orientation of an automobile based on the corrected X, Y component signals.
