The invention relates to a device (10) for automatically paying the fee for installing at least one advertising medium (16) on a vehicle (12), without using cash. The device comprises a first communications device (20) which is located at a control point (14) and a second communications device (26) whic h is located on the advertising medium (16). The second communications device (26) provides the first communications device (20) with the information required for testing whether the advertising medium (16) is present on the vehicle (12). The invention (10) also comprises a device (32) for giving credit in payment for the installation of the advertising medium (16) on the vehicle (12) in dependence on the result of the test for establishing its presence.
