PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of discriminating a physical network configuration by transmitting an SNMP trap frame showing the IP address and port number of a switching hub, which issues an inquiry, and the IP address and port number of a switching hub, which receives the inquiry, from the switching hub, which receives the inquiry to a managing station. SOLUTION: When a network manager is to confirm the IP address and port number of a switching hub 402 at the destination to connect a port 4 of a switching hub 401, the switching hub 401 is logged in from a managing station 404 while using telenet and an inquiry frame is transmitted from the port 4 of the switching hub 401. The switching hub 402, which receives the inquiry frame, confirms a number 2 of the port which receives the frame. The kind of the received frame is read and the connection of a port 2 is reported to the managing station 404 by the SNMP trap frame.
