To produce a printed transparent carrier film (1), a stencil film (2) with openings or holes (3) is placed on the surface (1a) of the film to be printed to cover it partially. The stencil film has a printed barrier coating (4). The stencil film (2) is removed, leaving a visible pattern of openings which can be seen through the coating and the carrier film (1). A twin-layer coating is printed on the films (1,2) as a barrier layer (5) and a pattern layer (7), with the pattern layer (7) printed before the barrier layer (5) or vice versa. A backing layer (6) is inserted between the pattern (7) and barrier (5) layers. When the stencil film (2) has been removed, a sealing layer is applied over the upper layer on the printed side (1a) of the carrier film (1), using a clear varnish or a transparent laminated film. The various layers are printed with a suitable printing process, using screen printing, offset printing, digital printing or ink jets. The stencil film (2) is thinner than the carrier film (1) and pref. one-third to one-twenty sixth of the carrier film thickness. The stencil film has a thickness of one-fifth to five times the thickness of the applied coating. The stencil film (2) is placed on the carrier film (1) so that, during printing, the ink is applied to the carrier film (1) through the openings. An adhesive or bonding layer (4) is between the stencil (2) and carrier (1) films, with a stronger adhesion to the stencil film (2) than to the carrier film (1). The stencil film (2) has an adhesive surface on the side towards the carrier film (1). An Independent claim is included for the print prodn. with openings (3) in a regular or irregular figure pattern in the stencil film (2). Preferred Features: The openings (3) are variable at the carrier film surface (1a) or the stencil film (2) in terms of size, shape and distribution. The stencil film (2) has film surfaces with linking webs between them, forming connected regular or irregular geometric figures over the stencil film (2) and the printed surface (1a) of the carrier film (1). The openings or perforations cover 30-70% or 40-60% of the stencil film (2) surface area. The ratio of the stencil film thickness to the carrier film thickness is 1:26 to 1:3. The thickness of the coating to the carrier film thickness is in a ratio of 1:90 and to the stencil film thickness of 1:5 to 5:1. The stencil film (2) has a thickness of <= 0.1 mm and especially <= 0.07 mm. The perforations (3) in the stencil film (2) and their linking webs are structured to give the film sufficient stability and tensile strength to be peeled away from the carrier film (1).
