PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a synthetic gas in a high yield at a low temperature by a method wherein a catalyst for generating the synthetic gas from dimethyl ether and steam is prepared by incorporating nickel. SOLUTION: A synthetic gas is a gas comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen, used as a raw material gas for methanol synthesis or the like, and used as a raw material for ammonia synthesis and various kinds of chemicals. In the case where such synthetic gas is produced, when a synthetic gas is generated from a mixed gas containing dimethyl ether and steam, a catalyst containing nickel is used. Synthetic gas is produced by bringing the catalyst containing nickel in contact with the mixed gas containing dimethyl ether and steam. Nickel to be used is one in which nickel metal and/or compound is contained. As a nickel compound, nickel sulfide is preferable, and as nickel sulfides, NiS, Ni3 S2 , etc., are used. |
