PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silver catalyst which has excellent catalyst activity, selectivity and catalyst life and is capable of producing an ethylene oxide at a high selection rate for a long period and to provide a process for producing the same as well as a process for producing the ethylene oxide by using the silver catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for ethylene oxide production is produced by incorporating silica and a metal or a compd. of at least 1 kind of element selected from the elements of groups Ib and IIb of the periodic table, for example, silver oxide, into a carrier consisting essentially of α-alumina, and depositing the silver thereon. The carrier is obtd. by mixing at least the α-alumina, a silicon compd., an org. binder and the compd.. of at least 1 kind of element selected from the elements of the groups Ib and IIb of the periodic table, then firing the mixture at 1,000 to 1,800 deg.C. |
