PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a fusing damage of a molten steel and to improve durability by using an alumina-carbonaceous aggregate containing carbon. SOLUTION: The alumina-carbonaceous aggregate is produced, for example, by mixing alumina of <=3 mm particle size, carbon of <=1 mm particle size and a resin as a binder, and granulating in a granulating machine into granules of about 8 mm diameter. As for the carbon, pitch, coke, carbon black and graphite can be used. As for the alumina, sintered alumina, electrofused alumina and natural alumina can be used. When the particle size of the alumina is >=3 mm, the carbon can not be uniformly dispersed or mixed. By adjusting the particle size of the carbon to <=1 mm, good dispersion is botd. By using the alumina-carbonaceous aggregate above described, the production of an alumina-carbon castable, especially having >=10 wt.% carbon content is made easy. |
