Wall breakthrough production comprises making the breakthrough by applying liquid or gas pressure to one side and setting cutting edges against the opposite side. Depending on the type of component and of the breakthrough required, the wall (6) is precut and/or cut through in the tool (4) selectively by at least one cutting edge to leave a residual wall thickness which is such that the wall sector does not fall away from the wall.
