A plant container comprising an outer container (10) having a base (24) and an outer container side wall (12, 14) extending upwardly therefrom, a soil support member (40) having at least a portion (48) thereof spaced from the bottom wall to define a lower chamber between the bottom wall and the soil support member, at least one wall (61) extending downwardly from the soil support member (40) to thereby define a cavity, a plurality of apertures (60) in the at least one wall, the apertures (60) being sized to permit root growth therethrough, characterized by the soil support member (40) having an upper side wall (42) which is at least partially coextensive and spaced from at least a portion of the outer container side wall (12, 14) to thereby define an insulation chamber, the insulation chamber being substantially sealed from the lower chamber, and upper vent means (68) communicating between the insulation chamber and exteriorly of the container to permit egress of air from the insulation chamber.
