It contains a plunger (9) which the operating rod (10) moves axially against a return spring (13) to initiate servo action, utilizing the pressure difference (A,D) to exert force on the master cylinder at the front. A further, electrically operated valve (14) is provided which, immediately it operates, connects the low pressure chamber to the plunger face (70). The construction of the servo actuator generally follows established practice, with a flexible membrane (4) dividing the casing (3) into front (5) and rear (6) chambers, connected respectively to the engine intake manifold (D) and ambient atmosphere (A). A central piston (7), connected to the membrane, slides in a sleeve (31) passing through the casing rear.
