[Class 17 (ii)] A shoe upper portion such as a toe or heel wound from strip is .formed by placing an auxiliary bottom member 13 on the sole of a last 6 and connecting the wound strip 14 thereto to form a basket-like structure, Fig. 4, so that, after removal of the last, the bottom member 13 can be secured between inner and outer soles of a shoe. A guide member 10 may be placed on the sole of the last to project through an aperture in the member 13, between guide parts of which, such as pins or ribs 12, the strip may be passed. If desired, these guide parts may be formed on the member 13. A further guide member 9 may be placed on the instep of the last, as shown. |
