PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote a reduction in thickness of a sheet feeder in the sheet feed direction and a reduction in size of its picture data processor while maintaining desirable sheet feed performance as well as loading/unloading performance of functional units. SOLUTION: A lever B203 as one moving means to move a feed-in means 152 between its operating and standby positions stays within the space defined by the projection of the widthwise middle region of a sheet of a maximum allowable size in the thickness direction. The lever B203 further lies within the space between two planes perpendicular to the sheet thickness direction abutting on the space in which the feed-in means 152 passes for movement between the operating and standby positions. The lever B203 is extended into the space defined by the projection of the widthwise peripheral region of the maximum-allowable-size sheet in the thickness direction for connection to a feed-in solenoid 200 as a moving drive source for the feed-in means 152.
