PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization efficiency of transmission power, to improve the communications quality and to decrease the number of base stations in a service area. SOLUTION: In a radio communication system consisting of a base station 12 and a terminal station 18 that conduct mutual radio communications, a communication controller 16 of the base station 12 controls a directivity shift/ changeover device 15 which changes the direction of a directional antenna 13. The position of a directional radio communications zone Z formed by the antenna 13 is moved sequentially, while residing by a preset resident time to cover radio communications with the terminal stations 18 placed in a service area 11 for prescribed time. Each terminal station 18 detects the residence of the directional radio communication zone of the base station 12, when the zone covers the terminal station 18 and makes radio communication with the base station 12 during the resident time. |
