PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently fusion-splice different kind of optical fibers different from each other in mold field diameter to each other without increasing facility cost or expanding a work place. SOLUTION: One optical fiber 1 having the small mold field diameter is held by a common fiber holder 30. The common fiber holder 30 is fixed to the holder clamp 17 of a fusion-splicing machine 10 and an optical fiber 11 is arranged between electrode rods 11 and 12 and heated by discharging. Then the optical fiber 1 is held at the holder hold part 24 of a cutting machine 20 together with the common fiber holder 30 and the optical fiber is cut at the heating position. The optical fiber 1 is set on the fusion-splicing machine 10 together with the common fiber holder 30 and the other optical fiber is set on the fusion splicing machine 10 thereby fusion-splicing them. |
