PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the production cost of a nickel metal by slurrying nickel- contg. oxide ores, washing this slurry with water, classifying at least one fine segment by using a specific sieve, classifying the slurry at a specific classification density and using a light segment which is an enriched ore. SOLUTION: The ores of a grain size below 300μm obtd. by sieving are mixed under addition of water thereto to form the slurry of 40 to 70 wt.% solid content and thereafter, the slurry is washed for 3 to 9 minutes by using water of 30 to 100 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. slurry, by which the fine grains sticking to the coarse grains are separated. The slurry is classified by a classifying machine, by which <=10 wt.% fine grain segment remaining in the granular segment is obtd. The meshes at the time of the classification are preferably set at 80 to 3 mm. The granular ores of 3 to 300 mm after classification are charged into a density classifying machine which classifies the granular ores by a density of 1.7 to 2.5, more preferably 1.9 to 2.3. The granules subjected to float classification to a density smaller than the range described above are recovered as rich ores. The coarse granular ores are preferably crushed before these ores are charged into the density classifying machine.
