Fiber panel, manufacturing plant and process

Chopped wood is initially graded into coarse particles and stored. A prescribed amount is preheated (3), then steam treated (5) under pressure to soften. Particles are then shredded (7), additives and binder are introduced and the resulting homogenous fibrous material spread to a suitable thickness and pressed into a continuous basic panel which is cut into prescribed sizes. Two basic panels are then bonded together and facing layers added. Independent claims are also made for: a) plant for panel manufacture; b) a fiber panel. Preferred Features: The pine wood base material is mixed with the binder, a hydrophobic material, additives, e.g. hardener, accelerator and formaldehyde trapping agent. Steam treatment is effected at 175.4-184.1 deg C and 8-10 bar. Basic panels are bonded together to form an intermediate product by pressing with resin-impregnated paper or a two component adhesive. Intermediate panels may be finished by applying various coating materials to the faces, e.g. aluminum foil, a two component varnish, phenolic and melamine resin sheets, phenolic-melamine resin impregnated paper, high or low pressure laminates, wood veneers or anti-adhesion varnish. Sandwich elements of intermediate panels can be pressed at >= 40kp/sq cm and >= 100 deg C with an abrasion resistant film to produce a high quality wood panel. Final panels are assembled as individual layers on a conveyer commencing with a first facing layer, a basic panel, a bonding layer, a second basic panel, second facing layer and then pressed at elevated temperature. Process plant includes a particle feed hopper (1), a preheater (3), high pressure steam processor (5), a mill (7), tube (8) with internal spray nozzles (9) for spraying in binder, hydrophobic and other additives, a tubular dryer (10), separating cyclone (12) with fiber scattering unit (13), pre compression belt (14), high pressure rolling press (16).
