Uses a series of comparative controlled contactors which switch in compensation devices, based upon comparison of a measured voltage and/or current with a reference. The electrical distribution system includes a tap change transformer (3) having an internal regulating circuit (32). The transformer (3) is connected to a network supply line (1). The compensator includes a first series of contactors (C1) connected in parallel at the transformer output (3). Each contactor (C1) being connected to an electrical device (A1) as well as a voltage and/or current measuring device(6,7). A controller (2) having a control unit (23) and a comparator (21) designed to compare a reference voltage and/or current with a voltage and/or current from the measuring device (6). The contactors (C1) are selectively controlled, by the control unit (23) connected to the comparator, as a function of the comparison.
