The electrical drive apparatus for medical drilling, cutting and screwing tools (6) has a stepper motor (1) with a maximum torque and speed specified via current magnitude and rotating field frequency. The drive shaft (2) of the motor is coupled to the tool with or without a step-up or step-down gearbox. It has a working speed range of 100 to 300 rpm and falls out of step when the load equals or exceeds its adjusted torque.
