The bed base (2) comprises a frame (4) with a series of parallel main slats (3) and a reinforced zone with secondary slats (7) facing the main ones. It has one or more sprung vanes (9) between the secondary slats and the main slats, the ends of which are set in bearings (10) on the secondary slats. Each of the bearings is a flat bearing with a cage containing at least one roller, or two parallel rollers in cavities and guide flanges, set in a holder (12) which surrounds the sprung vane and secondary slat. The sprung vanes are of plywood, and each has a shock absorber (20) where it makes contact with the main slat.
