PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abnormal temperature rise of an adsorbent due to combustion of coking HC. SOLUTION: HC discharged from an engine at the time when an engine is low temperature is adsorbed to an adsorbent 31, and HC desorbed from this adsorbent 31 is oxidated by a catalyser 33 in an activated state by using secondary air. In this case, accumulated quantity of coking HC to the adsorbent 33 is estimated by an estimation means 34, and when this estimated value becomes higher than a specified value, a regenerating treatment means 35 carries out regenerating treatment of the adsorbent 31 by raising temperature of the adsorbent 31 to combustible temperature of HC. Consequently, it is possible to restrain deterioration of the adsorbent even when coking HC remains in the inside of the adsorbent.
|
