The surround-sealing strand comprises a rubbery material, cross-linked following extrusion or coextrusion. It edges e.g. plates or panes, especially transparent organic or inorganic systems, e.g. double glazing in windows, doors, bodywork or facades. The frames are e.g. wood, aluminium, steel sheet or plastic, with functional sealing regions. There is no captive anchoring foot section for the frame. The seal comprises a head (1), clearance lip (2) and insertion lip (3). These lie to one side of the central plane (HM). In use, the insertion lip may be inserted between frame and glass, spreading the lips (2, 3) apart, pressed against the e.g. glass, the other side of the seal resting on and catching in e.g. a frame channel. The clearance lip (2) barely projects over the vertical central plane (VM) when installed. Preferably the back (6), clearance lip (2) and insertion lip are compact, cross-linked rubber, preferably EPDM, and the head (1) delimited by the phase-boundary (P) is open cell foamed rubber, preferably EPDM.
